Make-up upgrade: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

As a painfully pale girl, with an unfortunate desperation for high coverage without an oily finish, it can be a nightmare trying to find the perfect foundation. Now Winter is in full swing, my skin is really suffering, and despite my blemishes, my mattifying foundation just isn’t doing my face any favours. I am used to applying my foundation and then using a kabuki brush to compact any oily areas and set my make-up. I had never tried a luminous foundation prior to this and was a little nervous about using it on it’s own, as I often use make-up as camouflage.

I picked the lightest shade available 02, which was the EXACT match to my skin, and I have never been happier with a foundation colour. When I previously used MAC, the studio fix wasn’t light enough, even in the palest shade, and a similar story follows for other brands. I have also never spent more than £30 for a foundation and tend to just opt for what I can afford at the time. However it’s safe to say that I will be saving my pennies to repurchase this Beauty every-time it runs out now. 1

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation £37*

How long does one application last?

ALL DAY, 12-13 hours

How long does a bottle last me?

I’ve had mine for a month now, with daily use sometimes twice daily and I am still good to go.

Coverage?

Medium coverage, with a natural, luminous finish.

The foundation is really buildable and doesn’t become cakey or dry. I find it really moisturising despite being oil free and doesn’t leave my face shiny. I feel like it gives me a healthy glow whilst providing enough coverage for my blemishes, scars and dark circles.

It has a pump applicator which makes it really easy to use, especially compared to my MAC foundation. I still use a damp beauty blender after applying my primer, and I didn’t even need concealer underneath (which is almost unheard of!).

This is without a doubt THE BEST foundation I have tried so far on my make-up journey, and my only gripe would be that it’s so darn expensive. However the bottle lasts at least 2 months, the coverage is amazing and I will definitely be repurchasing and recommend this to anyone with similar skin concerns.

  1. I’ve heard so many good things about this foundation, but haven’t picked it up for the same reason you hesitated– the pice. It’s good to know the shades go light enough as I have an issue with that as well. I just purchased the Kat Von D foundation and it is pale enough for me, but I’ve found it works a lot better after adding a beauty oil into it. If you’ve never tried adding an oil that I’d give it a try 🙂

  2. Ooh this looks amazing! I wouldn’t call you “painfully pale” at all btw — your skin is flawless! As a fellow fair-skinned lady, it can be tricky to find the right shade match (without looking ghostly or orange), but you’ve nailed it. Beautiful! 🙂
