Battle of the beauty box February products
2013 was a huge year for Beauty subscription boxes with new brands popping up everywhere. I have cancelled and resubscribed on countless occasions depending on my income or my varying levels of satisfaction regarding value for money. February, coincidentally, is one of my favourite beauty box months so far, perfect when I decided to receive Glossybox& Love me Beauty.
After reading the monthly posts from gorgeous Beauty bloggers I felt as if I was missing out again and thought that I would compare which products I preferred & which box offered the best value for money (purely based on February of course).
I have paired the lashes & vitamins together as despite being seemingly different they are what I would class as the extra product, the contribution to beauty which doesn’t come in a pot/tin!
Inner Me Beautify Me Vitamin Complex RRP £15
The Beautify Me vitamins featured in Love Me Beauty’s February box, and whilst not being a new product to me I was jumping for joy! Number one – I adore these tablets, I noticed a real difference in my hair upon trialling a two week cycle, and the labelled packaging alongside the cute pull out ‘draws’ is amazingly helpful. The aesthetics contribute to my love of the tablets & whilst not reaching for my wallet to use these every month I appreciate a change from my Holland & Barrett £4 pot. You take two tablets a day, enriched with marine collagen, MSM and Silica (fabulous if you need some Skin, hair & nails TLC)
Eldora Eyelashes RRP from £3.90
I was actually pretty excited to receive false eyelashes in my box as its one of the first times I recall I have. They are very full & thick, & although not seemingly a beauty revelation eyelashes seem to do the trick for a tired, lack lustre day. On the money front? Very reasonable I think, they claim to be reusable with care so we will see whether they stand the test.
Best value for money: Love me Beauty’s Inner me tablets
Favourite product: The tablets again, they will last two weeks rather than a one off & beauty starts within after all!
Glossybox gave Ciate London
Paint Pot in Red Hot Chilli £9, whereas Love Me Beauty’s ‘Hero Product’ was Headline colours Sand dune £9
Ciate is already well established, and I recall fond memories of a similar shimmer colour in a previous ‘Seaside’ Box. I am still in love with the packaging, the colour intensity & the perfect choice for Valentines.
Sand dune on the other hand… What were you thinking?! To class this as a hero product is mildly upsetting, & not to mention the drab colour for the month of love & bridge to spring.
Ciate from Glossybox wins hands down for me. For the same price you get a much more pleasing bottle, gorgeous colour & Valentines appropriate product.
Hair products are risky when everyone has different hair types & both these products were new to me.
Toni & Guy Hair Meet Wardrobe Stick it up gum£7.20 (Glossybox)
Percy & Reed No-Fuss Flawlessness Dry Conditioner RRP £12
I have never tried a dry conditioner in any way or form & was curious to see how it panned out. First & foremost my advice would be use on length and ends avoiding roots & fringe, & spray from a distance. If all is abided by your hair will be super shiny in an instant! A handbag essential alongside the dry shampoo, a little goes a long way.
Toni and guy stick it gum isn’t a daily use product for me personally but is ideal for my flyaways and baby hair that cause problems. If you’re into slicked back styles & sleek ponytails it’s ideal.
Percy & Reed personally are my favourite product as I have never tried dry conditioner before & the beauty boxes are meant for discovery. That’s not to say that Toni & Guy won’t be helpful as a little goes a long way & is value for money.
When it comes to body lotions I have tried a fair few, but during this cold weather I appreciate variety & new products.
Glossybox gave us: Nougat London Body Shimmer £14
Love Me Beauty: La Claree Ultra Melting Body Milk £24
I read impressions of Nougat London being represented by words such as luxury, indulgent & before using I really couldn’t see why. The packaging reminded me of a cheap body wash set I could get in town BUT I was so wrong! The mallow, vitamin e & wheatgerm enriched lotion glides on your skin, moisturising without stickiness & leaving behind a glistening glow- lovely! Another clever product suited for Valentines & something I would buy myself.
I will start with the positive (yes being one), it moisturises my skin just as well as my E45…. Other than that, I really really hate the smell & the lingering of it on my skin. This downside veils the collagen benefits & the non greasy formula & in fact I had a shower again after..
I think it’s clear to all which product I favour!
Last but not by any means least we have the lip products.
Bakewell Soap Company Multi-Purpose pocket balm in ‘Hard working’ formula £3.95 (Love me beauty)
Maybelline New York Colour Sensation Stripped Nudes lipstick £6.99
This product exceeded my expectations for a handbag essential at £4. It is really soothing, easily applied & so versatile. It can be used on dry, sore lips and yet be available for cuticle softening and dry skin too.
As you may realise I own a variety of make-up products at varying prices, and £7 actually seems too much for what it is. The colour doesn’t last, and it takes a few applications to get the same as the stick. Yet still, Glossybox got it spot on for the theme as its fitting & an appropriate shade.
However the balm wins hands down for me, it’s cheap, it’s versatile & well worth the money.
Overall for a themed box, Glossybox nailed it with relevant, new exciting products. Love Me Beauty is consistently great every month, but this is hardly recognisable as a Valentines box. Glossybox’s products totted up to £41.20 with Love Me Beauty standing at £64. Love me Beauty is definitely value for money with gorgeous products, but Glossybox has innovative products & great themed boxes.
What would your pick be? Do you subscribe to either?
